Considered one of the top stars of her generation, Korean cellist Christine J. Lee was a top laureate of the first Queen Elisabeth International Cello Competition in Brussels and winner of the First Prize at the Isang Yun International Cello Competition in Korea in 2018.
Some of her highlights for this season include her debut with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as her debut at the Philips Collection in Washington D.C. In her previous seasons, she made a highly acclaimed debut with the Brussels Philharmonic with Augustin Dumay playing the Brahms Double Concerto. She has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra Symphony, Houston Symphony, and the National Symphony of Belgium.
Christine began playing the cello at the age of seven, and she made her debut with the Seoul Philharmonic only two years later. She was accepted to The Curtis Institute of Music at the age of ten. Since then, she has performed around the globe as a soloist and a chamber musician. She has appeared in many prestigious venues, such as the Alice Tully Hall (NY), Carnegie Hall (NY), Musée du Louvre (Paris), and the Victoria Hall (Geneva).
Her appearances in leading American chamber music festivals include Music@Menlo, La Jolla Summerfest, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, Music@Angelfire, La Musica, and the Marlboro Festival. She is expanding her presence in Europe through performances at the Verbier Festival, Schiermoonikoog Festival, Kronberg “Chamber Music Connects the World”, and IMS Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music.
Christine studied with Orlando Cole, Peter Wiley, and Carter Brey at the Curtis Institute of Music where she received a B.M. and with Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School, where she completed her M.A. Furthermore, she pursued an Advanced Performance Diploma for baroque cello under the guidance of Christoph Richter and Joseph Crouch at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Christine is an associated-artist at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Brussels, where she worked closely with Gary Hoffman.
As an active proponent of collaboration between different mediums of art, she is the original member of CelloPointe which combines live music and ballet, whilst promoting engaging and mindful listening through her role as the artistic director of the Thalie Foundation Classical Concert Series.
She plays on a Francesco Stradivarius cello on a generous loan from an anonymous sponsor.
