KAROLINA ŠANTL ZUPAN completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music, under Professor Fedja Rupel. She continued studying with Professor W. Schulz at the College of Music and Fine Arts in Vienna.
In the course of her studies, she took part in a number of competitions and received numerous awards. In 1990 she was awarded a Special Prize by the jury at the international competition in Markneukirchen, and received a Prešeren Award for Students for her performance of Philippe Gaubert’s Sonata.
Karolina Šantl Zupan began her professional career with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and has also worked as a solo flutist in the orchestra of the Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet, where she still occasionally takes part in productions.
The numerous prizes here students have won in national and international competitions pays tribute to her success as teacher, but she has also continued to regularly perform in solo recitals and as a soloist with various orchestras. She frequently participates in summer school programmes by holding seminars and master classes.
Karolina Šantl Zupan has performed in various chamber ensembles with celebrated Slovenian and foreign artists and is currently a member of the international flute quartet 4Syrinx.
She has recorded for Slovenian radio and television and for RAI in Italy. As a soloist she has performed with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, RTV Slovenia, and the Freiburg Symphony Orchestra.
Her discography includes two compact discs with works for flute and piano, flute and harp, and flute quartet.
She is currently professor of flute at both the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music and the University of Zagreb Academy of Music.
