Jošt Lampret is one of Slovenia’s most versatile and in-demand double bass and electric bass players. He studied classical double bass at the Conservatory for music and ballet in Ljubljana and the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of professor Zoran Marković, where he also got his master’s degree.
During his education, he won and received numerous awards in competitions on national and international levels. As a soloist, he performed with the Slovenian Radio and Television Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, String chamber orchestra of the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and Symphonic Orchestra of Conservatory of music and ballet in Ljubljana. Jošt Lampret also regularly performed in numerous recitals in a duet with piano and many different chamber groups. He was also a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the Mediterranean youth orchestra.
During his studies, he fell in love with jazz. That led him to take upon extra subjects (improvisation, Big band,…) and to finally form his own band P’Jays, where he functions as a leader, composer, arranger and bass player. Discovering jazz music pushed him to broaden his musical horizon and start growing interest and educating himself in many different styles of music. That inspired him to form or collaborate in many different projects ranging from jazz, flamenco, Romanian/Moldavian/Serbian music, Eastern European music, gipsy swing and ethnic music in general. He played with various accomplished musicians from Slovenia and abroad. Among them are Daniel Rowland, Zoran Marković, Vlatko Stefanovski, Wiyaala, Mate Bekavac, Irena Grafenauer, and Jean-Christophe Gairard to name a few.
Currently, he functions as a sideman (Teo Collori and Momento Cigano, TRIONICA, Slovenian Fiddle Gang and many projects as a hired musician) and a leader (P’Jays, Nomad, Eastern European Bass Ensemble).
