Country: Italy

Alessandra Soro is an italian singer of Sardinian origin born and based in Turin, Italy. She started singing when she was very young and over the years she developed a passion for Afro-American music (jazz, soul, R&B, NeoSoul). She studied jazz singing with teachers from Italy and USA and Jazz Composition at the Conservatory of Alessandria where she graduated with top marks with a thesis (research and arrangements for seven instruments) on traditional Sardinian “canto a tenore”. Since 2015 she has been working as a singer, composer and arranger and she has won some scholarships over the years (Berklee in Umbria Jazz 2015, with which she could study for three months Orchestration for Woodwinds and Strings online with professor Jerry Gates; Best Student in Nuoro Jazz 2019, with which she could take part in the Best Student ensemble the following year; Best Student in Nuoro Jazz 2022, with which she will be back in Nuoro Jazz 2023 with her own singing workshop as a teacher).

In the last couple of years, she has felt the need to get in touch with her Mediterranean origins and this has led her to get closer to Sardinian music. She is currently part of a small folk orchestra in Turin which plays popular music from all over the world, the Mom Orchestra, and she is also part of an ensemble made up of three voices and a double bass, Lapsus Lumine, with which she is exploring free radical improvisation within contemporary original compositions. She is currently attending a master’s degree in Jazz Composition at the Conservatory of Turin.
