Davide Levi is a sought after Italian conductor, coach and composer. Trained at the Conservatorio G. He recently worked with Opera North as a language coach for Madama Butterfly & Un ballo in maschera and will assist Ulf Schirmer on Oper Leipzig’s production of La fanciulla del West this summer. Alongside his work at The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden, Davide will return to Garsington Opera in 2019 as a coach on their new production of Don Giovanni.

Davide made his operatic debut in Milan working as an assistant conductor for Cimarosa’s L’Impresario in angustie in 2013. He has since worked as assistant conductor on several productions, including Verdi’s Rigoletto and La traviata, Puccini’s Tosca and Turandot and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. In 2016, he conducted Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio in two highly acclaimed productions at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, Italy. In 2018 he conducted performances of La traviata and Così fan tutte with the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra engaging young soloists from across Europe. Taking place in a disused textile mill in the North of England, the sold out performances brought opera to new audiences.

In 2017, Davide was awarded the Jerwood Performing Arts Micro Bursary to undertake further training in opera coaching and has recently conducted workshops for emerging composers with the Orchestra of Opera North. Other orchestras he has worked with include; the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Orchestra La Verdi, Sconfinarte, Orchestra SpazioMusica, the Jenaer Philharmonie, and the UK Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky. Since 2014, Davide has worked as a cover and assistant conductor for the Royal Ballet with conductors such as Koen Kessels, Boris Gruzin and Tom Seligman. In 2015, Davide co-founded the Janus Ensemble, a London based orchestra bringing together talented musicians from a range of colleges and universities. Under his direction, the orchestra gave highly successful renditions of major works as well as premieres of compositions by emerging composers.

Davide is a keen educator, teaching composition, music theory and general musicianship both privately and at Junior Trinity, Trinity Laban. In 2016, he was awarded a Pettman DARE Fellowship at Opera North and the University of Leeds, where he devised Opera North’s first, highly acclaimed Orchestra Camp. He has also been commissioned by Opera North Education to devise their work in schools, including the highly acclaimed Opera Tales: a relaxed, family friendly performance featuring highlights from well-known operas – arranged for wind quintet and solo voice. As a composer, Davide has written music for full and chamber orchestra as well as solo instruments. He has been commissioned to produce several works for theatre, ballet and film and his music has been performed both in Italy and the UK.
