Sophie Chabert studies music since the age of 9, as a harpist. But as she was studying for her master degree of law she starts to study voice with Françoise Pollet. After her master, she went to the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne with Christian Immler and Hiroko Kawamichi.
Holder of her master’s degree in vocal art since June 2017, she had, during her formation, the opportunity to sing Flora in “the turn of the screw” (Benjamin Britten), la Pastourelle in “l’enfant et les sortilèges” (Maurice Ravel), and some extracts, on stage, of Susanna (Les Noces de Figaro, Mozart), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte, Mozart), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni, Mozart) or Ophelia (Hamlet, Ambroise Thomas). She also performed with the Orlando choir and the Fribourg Opera Choir, lead by Laurent Gendre. In 2016 she represented Switzerland for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brasil). In 2017 she was Zerlina (Don Giovanni, Mozart) at the lyric opera studio of Weimar (Germany) and she was Salomé in a new production of this opera (music: Gérard Massini) in 2018. She is actually working on Micaëla (Carmen, Bizet) for production with multiple representations planned over years and will sing for the Leipzig Bach festival in 2020.
As she loves working with contemporary compositors, she worked with Michel Hostettler, Rossano Pinelli or Gérard Massini. Moreover, Fribourg is very well known for its religious life, so she could and still can sing for lots of religious services and improve her knowledge of oratorios. Thus, her repertory is full of operas, ancient music, melodies, Lieder…
