Laçin Şahin is a PhD candidate at ITU MIAM (Istanbul Technical University – Center for Advanced Studies in Music), with a concentration in Sound Engineering and Design (SED), and a guest lecturer at Bahçeşehir University Conservatory – Music Technology Department. Although he studied Industrial product design as an undergraduate, he always gravitated towards making music with his friends. He played the electric guitar in several rock bands; and after graduating from university, he worked as a freelance commercial music designer. While working on commercial music, he learned how to record music and studied the basics of music production — but he wanted to learn more. He thus entered the Sound Engineering and Design programme at ITU MIAM in 2013.
After finishing his masters in 2016, he continued in the same area of study as a doctoral student. He has been working at ITU MIAM since 2017 as a sound engineer. During this time, he has participated in countless sessions as a recording, mixing and mastering engineer.
His sound engineering portfolio includes diverse genres such as Western Art Music, Jazz, Pop, Funk, Rock, Metal, Indie, Instrumental, Turkish Folk & Art Music, World Music, Electronic, and Electroacoustic, to name but a few. He plays the electric guitar in several bands, and he occasionally composes and produces electronic music. Currently, his main research interest is 3D Audio production for chamber ensembles.
