MAJA ROME was a solo violist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2020. She accepted a full teaching position at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music for the summer semester of the 2019–2020 academic year (summer 2020).
She graduated summa cum laude from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where she studied under Mile Kosi; and she did her postgraduate studies with Diemut Poppen at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany. During her studies, she also attended seminars with Hariolf Schlichtig, Wolfram Christ and Mile Kosi.
She has been the recipient of various awards including the Prešeren Award for Students and the “Kristalni grb” medal from the city of Celje for artistic achievement during her studies. As a solo violist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, she worked with many renowned musicians, such as Sir Neville Marriner, Charles Dutoit, Andres Orozco Estrada, Marko Letonja, and Julian Rachlin, among others. As a soloist and as a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra, she has performed at many festivals (e.g. Festival Ljubljana, Sozvočje svetov, the Slowind Festival, Festival Maribor, Ohrid Summer festival, and Music Biennale Zagreb) and was has played chamber music with such musicians as Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Sreten Krstić, Andreas Janke, Primož Novšak and members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Maja Rome also devotes a lot of her energy to Slovenian contemporary music. She is a member of Ensemble MD7 and regularly premieres new works for solo viola.
