Maria João is a Portuguese jazz singer of international renown. She gained recognition for her vocal flexibility, improvisational skills and ability to incorporate folk music, avant-garde, and electronica styles in her musical work. She has toured extensively and collaborated with Portuguese pianist Mário Laginha, and worked with Aki Takase, Bobby McFerrin, David Linx, Gilberto Gil, Joe Zawinul, Manu Katche, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Ralph Towner, Trilok Gurtu and Ogre.
