Pierre Hurty begin playing the drums at the age of 7 years old, before adding classical percussion to his musical soundscape a few years later. In 2014, he joins the percussion class of Gert François and Bart Quartier at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel where he obtains a Bachelor’s Degree. Very attracted by the drums, Pierre continues his studies in the jazz department with Stéphane Galland. In 2020, he obtains a Master’s Degree and is rewarded with the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award.
Pierre is a very active musician on the Brussels scene. He plays among others with the Wajdi Riahi Trio and the Basile Rahola Quartet whose 1st albums have recently been released (Fresh Sound New Talents) as well as with Noémie Decroix “Voids” whose 1st album will be released at the end of 2022 (La Buissonne). He also collaborated with Fabrizio Cassol (Aka Moon), the Brussel Philharmonic and took part in the Orchestre National de Jazz des Jeunes Saison #3 (conducted by Denis Badault).
In parallel, he develops his two personal projects YAGŌ (piano trio) and YAGŌ Ξxtended (“extended” version with two pianos, double bass and drums) and co-leads the “electric” duo RIAHRTY with Tunisian pianist Wajdi Riahi.
Pierre Hurty plays on Bosphorus Cymbals and on a Latellier snare drum.
