Oscar Viret

Trumpet

Age: 22 years old

Country: France

Oscar is a young French trumpeter based in Paris. Coming from a family of musicians, he started playing the trumpet at the age of 7 and learned a lot from his father, a jazz bassist. He studied classical music with Eric Aubier and Brice Pichard at the conservatory of Montreuil and became fully involved in jazz at the age of 15. He was taught by Fabien Mary, Stéphane Payen, Romain Clerc-Renaud and joined the jazz class of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in 2021.

Oscar is a curious and eclectic musician who attaches great importance to melody, like his main influences, Roy Hargrove, Amir ElSaffar, and Arve Henriksen… Since 2021, he had the chance to join the program of Medinea intercultural exchange, under the direction of Fabrizio Cassol. From then, his approach to improvisation and composition was singularly enriched by contact with multiple Mediterranean influences.

Alongside his studies, he regularly performs as a sideman or soloist in the various Parisian jazz clubs and is involved in the following formations: TriumViret, Tamino Edener Sextet, Adèle Viret Quartet, Gaucher Viret Quartet.
