This Medinea session of the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée was led by Fabrizio Cassol for musical direction, Christiane Louis (Philharmonie de Paris) for Career development and Mark Withers (London Symphony Orchestra) for Outreach skills. They guided these sessions and proposed to experiment with techniques of collective composition, within an ensemble, with the aim of leading to the creation of a common musical production which also reveals individual singularities. For this session, the participants had the chance to meet and rehearse with the composer, trumpeter, santur player, and vocalist Amir ElSaffar.
The programme was focused on musical improvisation and collective composition workshops, rehearsals in tutti and smaller groups, coaching sessions for projects, career development and workshops for outreach skills projects and will end up with a unique composition, published on Facebook and on our YouTube channel. The session was held on the premises of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and ended with three concerts: at the Camargo Foundation on July 17, at the Hôtel Maynier d’Oppède on July 18 and at the Ajmi Jazz Club on July 19.
During this session, some of the artists were broadcasted on France Musique radio
