The intercultural creation session of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) is open to a dozen of young and talented musicians from the Mediterranean basin (building their careers to become professional artists) and who have an intense practice of musical improvisation, even of the composition.
the session is designed for a large diversity of musical aesthetics and Mediterranean expressions and hosts all styles of music using elements of improvisations (jazz, traditional music, early music, etc.). This session will be led by Fabrizio Cassol for musical direction, Christiane Louis (Philharmonie de Paris) for Career development and Mark Withers (London Symphony Orchestra) for Outreach skills. They will guide these sessions and proposes to experiment with techniques of collective composition, within an ensemble, with the aim of leading to the creation of a common musical production which also reveals individual singularities. For this session, the participants will have the possibility to meet the composer, trumpeter, santur player, and vocalist Amir ElSaffar.
The programme of this session is focused on Musical improvisation and collective composition workshops, rehearsals in tutti and smaller groups, coaching sessions for projects, career development and workshops for outreach skills projects. The session will be held in the premises of Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
A concert in the Hôtel Maynier d’Oppède is also in the programme on July 18, 2019.
