The intercultural creation session of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) is open to a dozen of young and talented musicians from the Mediterranean basin (building their careers to become professional artists) and who have an intense practice of musical improvisation, even of the composition. These sessions are designed for a large diversity of musical aesthetics and Mediterranean expressions and hosts all styles of music using elements of improvisations (jazz, traditional music, early music, etc.).

This session was led by Fabrizio Cassol for musical direction, Christiane Louis (Philharmonie de Paris) for Career development and Mark Withers (London Symphony Orchestra) for Outreach skills. They guided these sessions and proposed to experiment with techniques of collective composition, within an ensemble, with the aim of leading to the creation of a common musical production which also reveals individual singularities. For this session, the participants had the chance to meet and rehearsed the composer, trumpeter, santur player, and vocalist Amir ElSaffar.
The programme was focused on musical improvisation and collective composition workshops, rehearsals in tutti and smaller groups, coaching sessions for projects, career development and workshops for outreach skills projects and will end up with a unique composition, published on Facebook and on our YouTube channel. The session was held on the premises of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and ended with three concerts: at the Camargo Foundation on July 17,  at the Hôtel Maynier d’Oppède on July 18 and at the Ajmi Jazz Club on July 19.

During this session, some of our artists were broadcasted on national french radio: France Music you can listen to their participation by clicking here:
