Location: Turkey

The intercultural creation session of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO) is open to a dozen of young and talented musicians from the Mediterranean basin (building their careers to become professional artists) and who have an intense practise of musical improvisation, even of the composition.
the session is designed for a large diversity of musical aesthetics and Mediterranean expressions and hosts all styles of music using elements of improvisations (jazz, traditional music, early music, etc.). Fabrizio Cassol, composer and jazzman, guides these sessions and proposes to experiment with techniques of collective composition, within an ensemble, with the aim of leading to the creation of a common musical production which also reveals individual singularities.
The programme of this session is focused on musical improvisation and collective composition workshops, rehearsals in tutti and smaller groups and is held in the MIAM – Centre of advanced studies (Istanbul Technical University). The participants of this session had the occasion to meet the virtuoso Misirli Ahmet, Turkish Darbuka player.

These 2 weeks of collective composition ended up with a concert at the ITÜ MIAM concert hall:
